Etola Robinson, Jan 10, 1909

Medford Okla 1 - 10 - 09
Dear Annie:

yours received I was very glad to hear from you.

Say but thise things you and Tamerson sent me are pretty. wonder which you made? The collar I think. They are booth so dainty: I cleaned of my dresser you know how my dresser is always stacked I washed the scarf and put the pincushion on there, got out the pretty hair receiver Tamerson sent me three years ago and which I have never used, put a few other things on it and it looks very pretty,

I was well remembered also Christmas. Sarah sent me cloth for a waist, Amelia a set of collar pins, Mrs. Northam a sweeping cap, Dr. Thomas a chiffon bowa I guess it should be called, for my neck and her sister a pretty white footing bow for my collar. Cleo gave me a black rusleen petacoat and my friends here gave me a few little things. so you see I faired very well. and O recd 7 poast cards. ment to send you folks new years cards but could not get any pretty ones. I made myself a present of a poast card album. got it for Cleo but someone else gave her one so I kept it for myself. I have 51 cards. Tamerson sent me the principel part of them.

I do not think you will have me when the five

page 2

years are up. you know I did not promise to come back unless I prospered.

I am not loanly for I have made a few nice friends here, but I do long for the old frinds some times.

The switch you sent to me I took off the stems and cleaned the hair and made a switch and set of puffs out of it. Last week I sent it to Miss Darr for sale. If she sells it will devide the proceeds with you. If I do not get in other work this week shall go at your combings and get them in shape to sell.

I Wonder if you are having any cold weather last wednesday morning ot was t below zero here; then it warmed up and yesterday it was like spring, but turned cold and snowed a little in the night and has been groing colder all day untill at the "present writing" 9 P.M. it is decidedly chilly. I brought most of my bed out hear by the stove to warm. The wind is blowing hard and you know what that means when houses are not built very tight, and this one is decidedly loose.

Am sorry your mother does not become any stronger but it is not surprising. if we should live to be as old as she is we may consider ourselves lucky is we should be strong. well I shall have to close and make my bed + get into it. Tell Tamerson I shall write to her soon.

love to all and write soon. From your friend Toley.

A five year contract? And what kind of hairpieces is she making?

Dear Tamerson,

If you do not like your puffs send them back + I will try to sell them for you. or if your hair is grown darker so they are not a good match, and you do like them send me some new combings and will make you another set. I left one of them done up so you could see how to cirl tham. the ought to hold the cirl for a few days I think. do each puff seperately. I did not get them devided very evenly maby you can do a better job next time they are done.

have not time to write more now as ever your loving friend
Toley

When and why did Toley move to Oklahoma? Is she nursing, sewing or doing something else.

Try as hard as I might, I can not form a mental image of the "puffs" that she sent Tamerson.

I wonder if Ashley has got my peaches yet Mrs Northem got a bushel of erly Cabfreds to day for $1.25 they are nice too. Bell and Mrs. Vanostrand were over yesterday and Bell was here again this morning she was going over home this afternoon. It is a pitty Lib did not have a fue more children and grand children to work for and now she wants me to come so she can work for me.

Well I believe I have written all there is to write this time so will close. give my thanks to Mrs. Carlisle for her kind letter.

Love to all and write soon

from your friend

Toley

So Toley did have surgery after all. I learned back when I wrote Syracuse Baby Camp that keeping patients outside as much as possible helped them improve more quickly.

Monday Morning 3 - 19 - 1900 (306)

Miss Tamerson Carlisle:

Dear Friend.

I recd your letter some time ago and I suppose you think I might have writen before this time and it does look that way but realy I do not know what I am going to write now.

I guess I must tell you anout the school entertainment I went to while I was in the country. it was given in the evening and they had a stage fixed up clear acrost one end of the school house with dressing rooms and all cutained of. the mane thing was a play about a baby girl that was cast on shore from a wrecked ship and was brought up

page 2 (307)

by the fisherman who picked her up there was a donkey in it by the name of pepper she said he was "the spice of the family" it was very well played and then they had sesitations and singing it was fun to see one little teanty boy speak he opened his mouth so wide and it seemed as though he would never get it shut again and another did not know his piece very well and he twisted his head around in great shape trying to get the woards out. and one little girl spoke beautifully all togather I enjoyed it very well. I went to church last night with Mrs. Northrope (the lady who lives below) there were not more than 20 people there and and many of them were children there are so many catholic people on this side of the river that the protestants do not stand much show.

How does your Father like the way the election went this spring? it pleases me all right. How is Daniels dog coming has he traned him to drive yet?

you do not know how I should like to see you all but I do not know when I can

Upside down, top of page 1

well maby you can come over hear this summer and then we will have a good time.

I can not think of any more to write this time so will close write soon send a big letter with love to all I am yours
