- Aluminum Manufacturing process developed
- Carrollton Massacre in Mississippi
- CocaCola sold for the first time
- Haymarket riot in Chicago, IL
- President Grover Cleveland marries Frances Folsom
- 1st Civil Rights Act passes
- 1st major eathquake in the eastern US, Charleston, SC
- Typewriter ribbon patented by George K Anderson
- Apache Chief Geronimo surrenders ending last major US-Indian war
- October hurricane kills 250 in Indianola, TX
- Statue of Liberty dedicated

Thanks for sharing these events, Apple! I wasn't aware of the April blizzard in Detroit. I'm definitely going to incorporate that story in my family history when I get around to writing it ;-)
There have been lots of events that caught my interest as I researched these. The problem was trying to keep the lists short. I specically included the fact about the blizzard as it most likely effected south/central Michigan too, but is not mentioned in the letters.
I'm happy you both found them interesting.
