Dear Home Folks.
Another Christmas season has come around making eight years since last we were all together during the Holidays. Eight years that have gone so quickly that I can scarcely understand where the time has gone. I one time thought that when I had reached the years of 28 that I would be ancient indeed but to night I cannot see as there is any difference in the last 10 years only if I mistake not I can remember mother when she was no older than I am now.
This Christmas season finds us better off in health + worldly prosperity than ever before: the children are very well indeed. the baby especially seems to have fully recovered from his long sickness last summer and is as fat as any pig.
We send you all a few little

thrown in; it is the box I am imformed ny my wife that is the attraction + you must wear it on all possible occasions. You will find it more comfortable to wear that the boxes which made mother famous though I doubt if it is as necessary to your well being.
No dear sister, those slippers were not bought to match your hair nor yet your temper though some insinuate as much. They are to keep your little feet warm -- and a sweet kiss or two would do you bno harm - if I were there. Not having the distinguished honor of knowing the size of our ladies cinderellas we tried to get them large enough at least. (the larger they are the better the bargain you know) Wear them my dear

Makes me wish I could see what she sent them. And makes me glad I've never had to wait 8 years to see my family.
Tipper - It is a shame that some of the letter is missing but I enjoyed the inside family jokes that were preserved. Without the letters I'd have never known where all the red highlights in my hair came from! Frank hadn't seen the family at Christmas time in 8 years - 1st there was his time in the army and then his marriage - but he did get to Buchanan for visits and Anna and Tamerson visited him. I'm not certain if Ashley or Daniel ever did though.
